ELIGIBILITY OF NOMINEES
Nominees (or, in the case of the professional staff category, their supervisor) must have been NCWSS members for at least five years and are active members at the time of nomination. A member may be eligible in more than one category but can receive only one award within a three-year period. Members nominated to receive the Young Scientist Award must have received their terminal degree no more than 10 years before receiving the award at the annual meeting. Members of the NCWSS Executive Committee and Distinguished Achievement Award Committee (DAAC) are ineligible to be nominated with the exception that members of the NCWSS Executive Committee may be nominated in the Young Scientist category. In the situation where it is desired to nominate a DAAC member, the member may resign from the committee to be eligible for nomination. A DAAC member may also resign from the committee upon submission of a nomination for a fellow member.
The North Central Weed Science Society Outstanding Graduate Student Award may recognize up to two outstanding graduate students who are NCWSS student members. The student must be actively involved in the Society, as well as a contributor to the field of weed science through extension, research, teaching, and service. This student has gone beyond the traditional responsibilities of a graduate student. Examples of outstanding contributions include serving as a mentor, novel research methodology, new teaching techniques, organizing professional development workshops, or conducting outreach events.
Eligibility of the nominee: The nominee must be currently enrolled as a student or have graduated no more than 12 months prior to the annual meeting. Students will be judged on involvement in NCWSS and other activities in weed science such as: extension, teaching, research publications and other presentations of research, academic records, and honors and awards.
The North Central Weed Science Society is offering up to four (4) Travel Awards to qualifying students for their first attendance at the NCWSS annual meeting. The society reserves the right to increase the number of Travel Awards based on additional financial support from a corporate sponsor. This award will provide complimentary registration for the annual meeting. Students and/or their advisor are responsible for all remaining costs incurred to attend the NCWSS annual meeting, including hotel, travel, and meals. This travel grant program is intended to encourage student involvement in the NCWSS annual meeting while students are in the early portion of their graduate program. No more than one applicant will be permitted per advisor.
There are many in the NCWSS who have given years of service and have distinguished themselves in the weed science discipline. Please consider nominating those in the society that are deserving of the Fellow Award. According to the NCWSS MOP, nominees must have been active in the NCWSS and should have made substantial contributions in more than one of the following areas:
